Batik, also known as wax valerian in ancient times, is an ancient hand-made resist-dyeing process.

Wax valerian, twisted valerian (modern called tie-dyeing), and clamped valerian (modern called clip-dyed) are the three basic types of traditional Chinese valerian dyeing techniques.

Batik craftsmanship is widely popular in ethnic minority areas in southwest China, especially in Guizhou Province. The Miao batik technique is a national intangible cultural heritage.

Guizhou batik is generally blue and white. The dye used is indigo, which is fermented from indigo, a plant of the Polygonaceae family. Batik is usually made by dotting wax flowers on self-woven white homespun cloth with a homemade copper knife, and then drawing various patterns. The painted wax pieces are then dyed in a dye vat, and then dewaxed and rinsed. After the wax cools, natural cracks will appear on the surface of the wax cloth, and the color material will penetrate into the cracks, resulting in many irregular color lines, called ice lines or moire lines.

Width: 40cm length:100cm

Please note that this is a process of random rubbing of plants, and the pattern of each piece of cloth is slightly different.
