What is Jiangzhenxiang Incense?

[Mechanism of Resin Formation in Jiangzhenxiang]: The formation of *Jiangzhenxiang* requires at least several decades—or even over a century—and the likelihood of its creation is extremely low. While there are countless varieties of vines and woody climbers in the world, only woody vines belonging to the genus *Dalbergia* are capable of producing this aromatic wood. When the host plant of Jiangzhenxiang sustains external injury and becomes infected by specific pathogens, it continuously secretes resin to repair the damaged area;

Jiangzhenxiang possesses a naturally sweet character; when various insects or fungi colonize its heartwood, symbiotic interactions give rise to a diverse array of fragrance profiles. It is unique among aromatic materials for its ability to produce multiple, distinctly different scent profiles—a single vine yielding a variety of fragrances. However, injury alone does not guarantee resin formation; the specific action of particular pathogens is required.

Consequently, while the host plant grows in many regions, it does not always produce resin. Only mature vines growing in mountainous areas between 19 to 21 degrees north latitude have the potential to produce this resin.

 A single vine might grow for decades yet yield only a meager amount of the fragrant wood; moreover, injury does not guarantee resin formation, as the probability of this occurring is very slim. Thus, the scarcity of *Jiangzhenxiang* is self-evident.

Aroma profile: Jiangzhenxiang possesses a highly distinctive aroma with rich, complex layers that clearly set it apart from other aromatics. The fragrance reveals different layers as the temperature changes. At lower temperatures, it may offer a fresh floral scent or a subtle hint of coconut milk; when heated or burned at higher temperatures, it gradually releases richer notes of honey, flowers, and medicinal herbs. The fragrance is very varied and long-lasting.
