Ru Porcelain, a specialty of Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, is a Chinese National Geographical Indication product.

Ru ware is world-renowned for its sky-blue glaze, which resembles the sky after rain and the clouds breaking through. The glaze is warm and smooth like jade, and the color is elegant and subtle. It is praised as "like jade but not jade, yet surpassing jade". originated in the mid-Tang Dynasty, reached its peak of fame in the Northern Song Dynasty(960—1127), and ranked first among the "Five Famous Porcelains" of the Song Dynasty. Named after Ruzhou City, where it was produced, it once boasted a prosperous scene described as "a hundred miles of scenery along the banks of the Ru River, with kilns blazing everywhere," holding a prominent position in the history of Chinese ceramics. It is generally believed that 65 pieces of ancient Ru ware survive today, including 23 in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, 17 in the Palace Museum in Beijing, 8 in the Shanghai Museum, 7 in the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art in the UK, and approximately 10 others scattered in museums and private collections in the US, Japan, and other countries.

Inspired by the timeless beauty of antique Ru ware, this Ru Porcelain teacup faithfully recreates the legendary sky-blue glaze that has captivated collectors for centuries. Shaped like a delicate Meihua (plum blossom) in full bloom, the cup embodies both refined craftsmanship and graceful symbolism. Its luminous glaze evokes the poetic description of classic Ru porcelain—"the sky after rain, as clouds part"—revealing a soft, tranquil blue with a warm jade-like luster. Simple yet sophisticated, it brings the serene elegance of Song Dynasty aesthetics to every tea session.

Ru Porcelain Cup Care Guide

1. Soak it in purified water (around 85 degrees Celsius) for 15-30 minutes until cooled. Then warm the cup with boiling water and discard the water.

2. Initially, try to use one cup of tea at a time. Ru porcelain has a certain degree of absorption; mixing different types of tea will affect the color of the crackles.

3. Different teas will produce different crackle colors: green tea will produce a light golden-green color, black tea will produce red lines, oolong tea will produce golden lines, white tea will produce golden-red lines, raw Pu-erh tea will produce golden-red lines, and black tea and ripe Pu-erh tea will produce dark red lines. Mixing different types of tea will result in unpredictable crackle colors.

4. It is recommended to use it naturally, keeping it clean. After each use, wash and dry it, and place it in a dry, well-ventilated place.

5. The shape and order of the crackles are different for each cup; this is a natural result of the crackle process.

6. After using the cup for a period of time or after long-term storage, it is recommended to soak it in warm water before reuse to ensure its long-lasting beauty.

7. On the journey of nurturing your Ru ware, you might encounter a very rare case where the glaze doesn't develop crackle after a long period of care. If you are fortunate enough to encounter such a piece, please cherish it greatly, as there is only one surviving Ru ware piece without crackles (the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei).

8. The care methods for Ru ware teaware and other utensils are the same as above.
