Soda firing is a process in which a solution or solid of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃, , commonly known as baking soda) is added at a high temperature (1200°C ＝2192°F) to cause a chemical reaction between the sodium element and the silicon element in the pottery body, forming a vitrified glaze effect.
