What's Green Peony?

Huangshan Green Peony is a specialty blooming tea—a type of shaped green tea. The dry leaves are hand-tied into small, dark green floral buds that slowly unfurl in hot water, resembling a peony in full bloom. Created in 1986 by tea expert Wang Fangsheng in Shexian County, Anhui Province, it stands as an innovative masterpiece within the green tea category.

Where is Green Peony from?

It is produced at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters in the area spanning Huangyinkeng, Shangyangjian, and Xianrenshi in Daguyun Township, She County, located on the southern slopes of Mount Huangshan in Anhui Province. The region features towering mountains and dense forests with rolling peaks; it is shrouded in mist and clouds year-round, enjoys abundant rainfall and fertile soil, and boasts an exceptional ecological environment.

About Green Peony Tea Craftsmanship

The shaping and baking process for "Huangshan Green Peony" tea requires careful execution. The aesthetically shaped "Green Peony" tea blossoms are arranged on a press plate with appropriate spacing between them, and then a second press plate—weighing approximately 100 jin (50 catties)—is applied for six seconds. Next, the shaped tea blossoms are transferred onto a specialized bamboo baking ring; a lid is secured tightly over the assembly, and the baking begins. Precise control of the heat is essential. "Mastering the heat relies entirely on years of accumulated experience; it is difficult to articulate clearly, and there are no specific numerical data to reference."

Origin: She County, Anhui Province, China

Tea Varieties: Chinese green tea

Production time: 2026

Net weight: 50g/ 6 bags( each sachet 8.5g)

Tea shape: The dry tea resembles a tightly closed bud, gracefully unfurling into a floral spectacle when brewed.

Flavor profile: It offers a rich roasted chestnut aroma with subtle orchid floral notes. The soup has a rich, mellow, sweet, umami taste and is refreshing on the palate, offering a generally gentle and smooth experience. Upon tasting, one immediately notices a fresh, brisk, and sweet quality, accompanied by a long-lasting, sweet aftertaste.

Brewing Recommendation:                                                                                            When brewing Huangshan Green Peony, the visual experience is paramount; therefore, the choice of tea ware and water temperature requires careful attention.
Tea Ware: A transparent glass cup is the ideal choice, as it allows you to fully appreciate the process of the tea leaves unfurling in the water.

Water Temperature: The temperature should not be too high; a range of 80–85°C(176- 185°F) is recommended. Using boiling water can scald the tender buds, compromising both the flavor and the visual presentation.

Tea to water ratio: 1/40-1/50, a glass cup about 350-400ml

Storage:
Protect against the tide, peculiar smell, keeps in low temperature and refrigerate it.
