What's Underglaze Gold?
Underglaze gold is a special material used in the underglaze color process. It is mainly composed of precious metals such as gold and copper, and has the characteristics of low manganese and high iron. This process is a breakthrough made by contemporary kilns in Jingdezhen in the field of underglaze color. Currently, only a few kilns have mastered this technology, and the formula and process are usually regarded as the core secrets of each kiln. The characteristics of underglaze gold are that there are bubbles of varying sizes on the glaze surface, and gold is hidden under the glaze, showing the effect of eating the body and swallowing the glaze. When you touch it with your hand, you will feel bumpy, just like carving.
Why Underglaze Gold is so Precious?
The production process of underglaze gold is complicated. It requires mixing gold powder with specific resins and other materials, and then firing at high temperatures to fuse precious metals such as gold with the glaze to present a unique golden effect. The firing temperature, moisture control and thickness of underglaze gold have a great influence on the final effect, requiring the kiln workers' superb skills and rich experience.
This extraordinary set is applied with two Chinese craftsmanship Blue White Porcelain and Underglaze Gold, painted with Chinese traditional auspicious pattern called "Ruyi".
The "ruyi" pattern is a classic, auspicious Chinese decorative motif, often seen in art, architecture, and crafts. It symbolizes good fortune, prosperity, and authority.
