What's Zhuang Brocade 壮锦？

The Zhuang people have a very ancient history, having lived for generations in parts of Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hunan in southwestern China. Zhuang brocade, also known as "Zhuang brocade" or "velvet quilt," is relatively thick and is considered one of China's four famous brocades, a treasure of Guangxi's ethnic culture.

Intangible cultural heritage preservation: In 2006, Zhuang brocade craftsmanship was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Traditional patterns include more than 20 types, such as two dragons playing with a pearl, meander, water, cloud, flower, and animal patterns. More than 80 new patterns such as "Guilin landscape" and "national unity" have also emerged, which are rich in national style.

Wanji Pattern 

The swastika symbol "卍 "(wan) means "many" or "abundant," representing an extremely large quantity. Therefore, the swastika symbolizes good fortune, happiness, prosperity, longevity, boundless good things, and smooth sailing in all endeavors.

The chrysanthemum pattern, featuring chrysanthemums that bloom in autumn, symbolizes the harvest and the enduring nature of life. In traditional Chinese culture, the chrysanthemum is associated with longevity and resilience. The character "菊" (ju) in Chinese is a homophone for "吉" (ji), meaning auspicious.

The plum blossom pattern is inspired by the plum blossom, which is hailed as a harbinger of spring. Blooming in the depths of winter, it heralds the arrival of spring. The plum blossom's solitary and noble image was deeply admired by ancient Chinese literati. Furthermore, the pronunciation of "plum" (梅) is similar to "joy on the eyebrows" (喜上眉梢), signifying happiness and good fortune. Therefore, the plum blossom also carries the auspicious meaning of bringing good luck, happiness, and well-being.
