This Jingdezhen artwork gaiwan set was painted by a Jingdezhen experienced ceramic painter. The inside and outside of the gaiwan are painted with fish and algae patterns.

The fish and algae patterns of Yuan blue and white porcelain are usually painted with fish, algae, duckweed, lotus and other patterns. Fish has rich symbolic meanings in traditional Chinese culture. "Fish" and "Yu" (surplus) are homophones, so fish and algae patterns imply wealth and auspiciousness.

Yuan blue and white porcelain refers to blue and white porcelain made during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368 AD) in China. Yuan blue and white porcelain is characterized by blue and white painting, and the pigment used is a cyan pigment made of cobalt oxide. After firing, the color is bright and rich, and it has a very high decorative effect. The formation of tin spots in Yuan blue and white porcelain is that the iron content in the local area of the blue pigment is particularly high, reaching a saturated state in the high-temperature glaze solution. After the kiln heating is completed, the kiln temperature gradually decreases, and the supersaturated part of the iron element begins to precipitate. If the iron content of the blue pigment is higher and the cooling speed is properly controlled, tin spots are more likely to appear on the object.
