Batik is a dyeing technique that uses wax resists. Batik is a process of drawing or stamping wax on pure cotton cloth to prevent color absorption during the dyeing process. When the wax is removed from the dyed fabric, a pattern negative is created. Artisans can create complex colorful patterns by waxing and dyeing multiple times.
The Miao people in Guizhou, southern China, have used batik techniques for thousands of years, so the pattern elements are also rich, with natural animal and plant patterns, as well as Miao totem images as elements.
